– Darvish Yu Water Fund: the 16th project, Jhimirethok Water Supply and Sanitation Project, Nepal, is now underway!

Darvish Yu, a member of the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball established the “Darvish Yu Water Fund” in collaboration with the Japan Water Forum in March 2007 in order to supply safe water to people who face a lack of or contamination of water in developing countries. Since then, he has contributed to the Fund by donating JPY 100,000 at every one of his winning games during the regular season since then. So far, the Fund has subsidized 15 projects in 11 countries.

Jhimirethok village in Nepal built water supply system in 2020 but had to dismantle it due to a lack of electricity.  The villagers are dependent on traditional waterspouts for their drinking water.  The water from the spouts is contaminated.  During the dry months (March-June), the villagers must travel 3 hours to fetch water from streams.  They suffer from poor hygiene.  Reconstruction of the village water supply system and training on sanitation is expected to increase access to water to all households, and improve sanitation and hygiene services.

– The logo for the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize has been created

The logo mark for the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize has been created in preparation for the 10th World Water Forum.

The design incorporates Mizuhiki, a traditional craft of Kyoto, and features a droplet shape. Mizuhiki symbolizes not only “a precious gift” but also “connections” or “bonds.” Through the Kyoto World Water Grand prize, the logo expresses that people’s thoughts and actions towards water will be connected and intertwined.

The shape of the logo is inspired by a four-leaf clover, with four overlapping droplet shapes. The four-leaf clover is a symbol of good luck. This embodies the wish that through the efforts of the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize, the resolution of water issues will bring happiness to people’s lives.

Within the logo type, the design incorporates Mizuhiki in the letter “O.” Additionally, circular elements are positioned within the “O” and “A.” This represents the notion of equality among all beings living on Earth.

If you would like to use the logo mark, please contact our office for further inquiries.

– Youth Water Forum 2023: We’re Now Accepting Video Submissions!

The Youth Water Forum began accepting video submissions on June 1st, 2023!

Water-related issues have become increasingly prevalent worldwide due to recent climate change, resulting in devastating floods, heavy snowfall, and droughts. Water is a vital theme that intersects with the entire United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is intricately linked to the history of our communities.

Resolving water challenges requires collaborative efforts that span across generations. That’s why we are calling upon young citizens, the leaders of tomorrow, to create videos centered around the theme of water.

We have launched the Youth Water Forum as a platform for the next generation, to engage in. We believe the sustainable future depends on how we face this challenge collectively.

Through the language of ‘water’ and its associated problems, let’ s walk hand in hand with like-minded peers from around the world towards a brighter future. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
