– JWF Fund 2022: Recipients Decided!

The JWF Fund was founded in 2005 and is solely operated by the Japan Water Forum (JWF). The JWF Fund aims to contribute to solving local water-related issues in developing countries by assisting the implementation of sustainable solutions led by grass-roots organizations. Every year, the JWF publicly seeks out projects to assist and provides grants up to 1,500USD per project adopted after due assessment. We value the projects which utilize local resources, knowledge and technologies, and establish a sustainable operation and maintenance scheme.

The JWF Fund is made up of JWF membership fees of the JWF members and general donations.

In the JWF Fund 2022, we have received 268 applications from 33 countries. As a result of selection, we have decided to provide funds for 5 projects from 4 countries, 1 from Asia and 4 from Africa.

– NoWNET’s session outcomes about the Nature-based Solutions for Climate Action with Sound Water Shed Management in the Stockholm World Water Week 2022

On 25th August 2022 of the Stockholm World Water Week 2022, the Northern Water Network (NowNET), which the Japan Water Forum serves as the secretariat, organized the session entitled the Nature-based Solution for Climate Action with Sourd Water Shed management with several NoWNET members (Danish Water Forum, Finnish Water Forum, French Water Partnership, Netherlands Water Partnership, Swedish Water House, Swiss Water Partnership, and Korea Water Forum). We discussed the value of NBS to mitigate water-related disasters, sharing lessons learned from NBS projects in urban and rural areas focusing on watershed-level from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We then examined how to overcome trade-off challenges and scale up using technologies, governance, and financing arrangements.

– Outcomes of the session about Water Cycle Management: Key to a Resilient and Sustainable Asia-Pacific in Stockholm World Water Week 2022

Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF), which Japan Water Forum plays as the Secretariat, co-organized the session to discuss Water- the key to a Resilient and Sustainable Asia-Pacific in terms of Water Cycle Management. It co-organized with UNESCO Scientific Beaureau Asia and Pacific (UNESCO Jakarta), International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Japan Sanitation Consortium, and Korea Water Forum. We explored the connecting role of Water as underpinning sustainable human development, climate resilience, and ecosystem health in Asia and the Pacific through diverse case studies from across the region.

At the beginning of the session, the author of this report, who led the whole Asia Focus Session of the Stockholm World Water Week 2022, introduced the overview of the APWF and the purpose of the session. She also expressed his condolences to APWF Governing council Chair, Mr. Mark Pascoe, who recently passed away suddenly.
