The Japan Water Forum (JWF) and the Youth Water Forum will organize the side event, Japan Reception Party -Water Sustainability for the Future- on Friday, 24 March 5pm-7pm at Japan Society. The event will provide a broad range of guests in public and private sectors (not limited to water community alone) with an opportunity to interact with multiple stakeholders and have a better understanding of our Water Action Agenda that are below-mentioned different initiatives and actions including youth’s efforts, to invite more stakeholders to join the journey towards realizing a quality-oriented society and enhance cooperation and collaboration while they enjoy Japanese water and food culture there. It will follow the outcomes of the five interactive dialogues including Water for Cooperation, and Water Action Decade.

Background

On 23 (Sat)-24 (Sun) April 2022, the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) and Kumamoto City co-organized the 4th Asia-Pacific Water Summit (APWS) with the support of the Government of Japan under the theme of “Water for Sustainable Development: Best Practices and the Next Generation.” The Summit brought a strong determination and commitments of participated heads of state and government on water sustainability and transformation towards a quality-oriented society that is resilient, sustainable, and inclusive in order to make a full recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and address aggravated water challenges. JWF that served as the secretariat of the 4th APWS commits itself to enhancing cooperation of multiple stakeholders at local, national, regional, and international levels to strengthen capacity, improve governance, and boost investment towards realizing their ambition.

Other important outcomes of the 4th APWS include the Kumamoto Initiative for Water that is a series of strong commitments by the Government of Japan to the development of “quality Infrastructure” in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of both climate change adaptation and mitigation measures and improving people’s basic living environment, and the Youth Water Forum that is a platform launched by the JWF to enhance a meaningful engagement of young people in water issues and strengthen cross-generational partnerships. The JWF supports the Kumamoto Initiative for Water and its implementation, and the development of youth-led initiatives.
