The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (RC/RC) is the world's largest humanitarian organization. The RC/RC is present at international, national and most of all the local level. More than 20 million volunteers worldwide assist people in vulnerable situations.
Climate change will lead to more weather extremes like floods and droughts. These will directly have impact on the work of the RC/RC societies worldwide. More disasters mean that the RC/RC volunteers will have to be prepared.
In 2002 the International Red Cross Red Crescent Centre on Climate Change and Disaster Preparedness was established to support RC/RC societies to be aware of and to prepare for the expected increase in extreme weather events.

The audience of this session will get an impression of the great variety of RC/RC actions and activities to prepare for disasters and limit their impacts. The audience will be informed about the dilemma's that the RC/RC have to deal with. The audience will be asked to give advise on some cases that will be presented.
