The general format of the Middle East and Mediterranean regional day is as follows:
The Middle East and Mediterranean Regional Day will begin with an opening session to be followed by a series of afternoon thematic sessions. The opening session will include a general presentation on the state of water resources management and challenges in the region and actions required to achieve water security. In addition, Water Ministers from selected countries of the region will present key lessons learned and best practices with regards to water policy reforms.
The four themes that will be addressed during the afternoon sessions are the following:
- WATER, AGRICULTURAL POLICIES AND FOOD SECURITY
- GROUNDWATER AND SHARED AQUIFER MANAGEMENT WITHIN THE INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK
- INSTITUTIONAL REFORMS AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS
- NON-CONVENTIONAL WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, including desalination, use of saline water in irrigated agriculture and treated wastewater reuse
The closing session will present recommendations from each thematic session, Water Panel discussion, as well as a call for action. A cultural show characteristic of the region will also be held, featuring the Yasmine Trio Ensemble Group and a children play. Other side events, like a photo exhibit, will also be organized.
