Copyright: Hochi Shimbun

Mr. Darvish Yu is a talented professional baseball pitcher who was among the first Japanese athletes to turn his attention to global water issues and has made great strides to bring safe, clean water to needy people around the world.

In 2007, Mr. Darvish established the "Darvish Yu Water Fund" in collaboration with us.

Since its establishment, the Darvish Yu Water Fund has supported 6 projects to provide safe drinking water to people in Nepal, Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.

He has been endowing this fund by donating 100,000 yen for every win during the regular baseball season. People with a desire to support this water work also can contribute to the fund with him

Support Grass-roots Activities to improve access to Water and Sanitation in the Developing World

Worldwide, 900 million people lack access to safe drinking water and 2.6 billion people have no access to improved sanitation.
Every day, four thousand children lose their lives due to diarrhoeal diseases caused by unsafe water, inadequate sanitation or insufficient hygiene.

A gift of about one thousand yen can provide WASH training for eight people.
A household toilet can be purchased for about four thousand yen.

Your gift will help people gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education

(Closed) Support the People who suffer from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

The JWF called for donations to support water and sanitation-related projects for victims of the 2011 earthquake. Thanks to your donations, the JWF has been able to support a rainwater utilization project in temporary housing in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, and to provide drainage pumps to mitigate flood damage caused by land subsidence in Matsushima.

It is already two and a half years since the earthquake, and the need for support is shifting to another stage. Therefore, we have decided to end our fund-raising campaign. Hereafter, we are planning to review our support projects and continue to participate in water and sanitation activities in times of disaster. Thank you again for your support and cooperation.

The Japan Water Forum is collecting donations for providing people in the disaster hit areas with water-related assistance.
We are planning to use part of the donations for promoting rainwater utilization in temporary housing in the cities of Sendai and Natori, Miyagi Prefecture.
The purpose of this project is to improve access to water and reduce a burden of water bills on the residents who put up with the inconveniences of unsettled lifestyle.
